Manager, Financial Reporting (Project Management)

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Manager of Financial Reporting to lead our financial reporting function. This role is critical in ensuring the accurate preparation, analysis, and delivery of internal and external financial reports, regulatory filings, and state/local premium tax submissions. The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of statutory and GAAP principles, excels at leading a team, and thrives in a dynamic regulatory environment.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee the preparation of statutory and GAAP financial statements (individual, consolidated, and combined).

Manage quarterly and annual regulatory filings, audited financial statements, and internal financial reports for management and the Board of Directors.

Ensure timely and accurate preparation of state and local premium tax returns.

Supervise and mentor a team of Financial Analysts and Senior Accountants; evaluate performance, assign work, and provide ongoing training.

Review and approve general ledger entries and account reconciliations.

Ensure accurate allocation of expenses by line of business and expense groups.

Drive continuous improvement by staying up to date with industry trends, regulatory changes, and automation opportunities.

Serve as a key contact with external auditors and state insurance departments.

Lead or participate in special projects and ad hoc assignments to support strategic business initiatives.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.

CPA, CPCU, MBA, or AIAF designation preferred.

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of experience in insurance accounting and/or public accounting (with a focus on insurance).

Previous supervisory experience strongly preferred.

Technical Skills:

Expertise in statutory and GAAP accounting for insurance.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Effective communicator with a strong customer service orientation.

  • This position is primarily a sedentary position that requires occasional standing and walking throughout the office environment.
  • Must be able to see and effectively use a computer monitor.
  • Must be able to operate a computer, keyboard and applicable printers and other general office equipment.
  • Must be able to access and enter information accurately using automated systems.
  • Must be able to hear and communicate via the telephone and/or monitoring devices to both internal and external clients.
  • Must be able to present information to individuals and groups.
  • Must be able to interpret and apply concepts that may or may not be based upon established guidelines.
  • Must be able to maintain acceptable attendance and adhere to scheduled work hours.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Must be able to travel, with overnight stays required.
