Assignment Desk Manager, KIVI (Administrative)



KIVI, Idaho News 6, the E.W. Scripps ABC affiliate in beautiful Boise, is on the lookout for an ambitious and dynamic Assignment Desk Manager, focused on news discovery, cross-platform coordination, and logistical support for the field. to join our passionate news team. In this pivotal role, you will support the continued growth of our Neighborhood News brand, and to drive performance where it matters most: digital-first, real-time coverage. This isn't just about managing the assignment desk—it's about creating a system where great stories are surfaced earlier, supported more efficiently, and delivered across platforms with more consistency and impact.

This role will help:

  • Strengthen our digital execution by ensuring stories are surfaced, confirmed, and posted quickly—aligned with digital trends and search behavior.

  • Support our MMJs and Executive Reporter in the field by helping with interview coordination, confirmations, and scheduling—especially during early morning shifts.

  • Bridge content between dayparts, creating a more consistent, strategic 24-hour news flow that keeps all shows aligned and forward-looking.

  • Ensure nothing falls through the cracks by monitoring tips, community calendars, emails, scanners, and social media while keeping crews and managers in the loop.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Supervise the assignment desk.

  • Plan news coverage as directed by news management.

  • Dispatch crews to stories and breaking news, using appropriate logistical and journalistic judgement.

  • Make calls to news sources as needed, gaining appropriate and actionable information.

  • Find stories, conduct research and track story ideas in assignment desk computer with emphasis on key brand points.

  • Publish online content.

  • Perform other duties as needed and as directed by news management.

  • Keep news managers and producers informed on progress of new stories.

  • Support MMJs and reporters by coordinating interviews, confirming logistics, and helping with real-time sourcing—ensuring crews can focus on storytelling.

  • Monitor digital trends, email tips, and community calendars to identify web-first and brand-aligned stories that support audience growth across platforms.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • BS/BA in related discipline preferred or equivalent years of experience

  • Generally, 2+ years of experience in related field preferred 

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Basic computer skills; Microsoft Office, non-linear, and  production techniques

  • Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast paced environment

  • Ability to work independently

  • Understanding of the principles of responsible journalism

  • Ability to work well with others in a team-based environment

  • Ability to write effectively

  • May require evening and weekend work

  • Fast paced, newsroom environment
