Lead QA Technician (Manufacturing)



SUMMARY: This position is responsible for the day-to-day requirements of assigned area. This position is also responsible for food safety and quality procedures in order to maintain a quality and safe product. Duties include day-to-day assignments of labor within assigned area, communication of issues and concerns and overall safety of area. Responsible for online checks that monitor quality of product and 1:1 training on quality procedures to ensure quality. This is a full-time, on-site position working 9:45pm-6:15am, Monday through Friday.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other appropriate duties may be assigned as required.

Partner with all departments, executing and supporting all Quality programs that ensure the production of safe, quality foods.
Ensure the safety of all employees and processing equipment.

· Communicate with supervisor regarding daily issues concerning staffing and equipment issues.

Work with assigned employees on record-keeping corrections, and collaborate with the supporting supervisor/manager to ensure employee training is scheduled and completed.
Effectively cooperate with direct supervision and maintain professional, cooperative relationships with peers.
Tracking record deficiencies and generating reports to the appropriate personnel.
Assist with record corrections.
Maintain all record retention in accordance with stated guidelines, including transportation of records to designated storage facility.
Generate recommendations for refining plant measurement techniques, including documentation of testing procedures, identification of sample points, frequency of data collection, record-keeping and data analysis.
Calibrate, clean and perform light repairs on all lab equipment.
Conduct new employee QA training as needed.

Perform physical examinations as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedure guidelines.
Accurately and effectively use designated tools and equipment to perform required quality testing.
Accurately and effectively use calculator to compute various weights and measures.
Accurately and legibly complete all required documentation and forms for the quality control tests run.
Conduct quality control tests at specified time intervals per Standard Operating Procedure guidelines.
Conduct training verification activities for operations employees.
Conduct one-on-one training on quality procedures as needed.
Responsible for strict observance of all safety rules and for exercising extreme caution around moving machinery.
Responsible for investigating why tested do not meet specifications.
Responsible for following Good Manufacturing Practices.
Provide support in QA Lab, QA Analyst, or QA Specialist roles as needed due to staffing concerns


EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
· A high school diploma or its equivalent is required.
· 3 to 5 years of experience in food manufacturing is preferred.

SECONDARY SUPPORT: In the event of an absence, this position will be backfilled by QA Supervisor, Sanitation Manager, or QA Specialist.

COMPUTER SKILLS: Must have basic computer knowledge and the ability to read and understand various computer screens and/or machine controls; must be able to enter data accurately in system.

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS:

SPEAKING ABILITY: Able to present a detailed analysis or comparison, such as making extended suggestions to solve immediate problems or implement improvements. Additionally, must be able to give instructions on operating a machine.

LISTENING: Able to listen to presentations on checklists of plant processes, retell information, respond to questions, and complete a chart. Able to identify the main idea, details, and transition points during a presentation.

DOCUMENT USE: Able to explain how something works based on text and relate the sequence of steps or stages in a cycle or process described therein. Able to access, locate, and compare or contrast two-three pieces of information in a reference source.

READING SKILLS: The ability to explain how something works based on text that describes the sequence of steps or stages in a cycle or process. Must be able to use information from a timeline or schedule chart to solve a simple scheduling problem.

WRITING APTITUDE: The ability to convey business messages through written notes to pass on routine information, make requests, or respond to recommendations and warnings. Able to reproduce information received orally or visually and take simple notes from short oral presentations or from reference materials.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals in all units of measure. These skills also include performing the above operations with American units of measurement, weight, and volumer. Must be able to accurately record and chart results and operate a calculator to determine sums, averages, and ranges.

REASONING ABILITY: The ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations by thinking logically to form a conclusion or judgment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, reach, bend, stoop, climb stairs, and use hands to operate controls and inspect product. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and color vision.
