Director of Internships (Security)



The Director of Internships works as part of the Academic Success Center team with the goal of assisting all undergraduates into an experiential internship experience. The director collaborates with faculty, students, and external employers in the mission to provide robust internships for all majors. This position will spend half of their time in the field connecting with businesses and non-profits to promote Simpson and develop internship partnerships. All new students will be required to meet with the director during their first semester to have a meeting about their calling and vocational aspirations and to set a career planning path for their undergraduate experience. A successful candidate will possess the skills to weave the needs of all three of these constituents together.

Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.
2. Preferred experience working directly with undergraduates in student support services, particularly in career and internship experiences.
3. Experience working with businesses and an internal drive for selling experiences.
4. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, in addition to the ability to use computer applications.
5. Must have a CA driver's license and be available to drive up to 200 miles in a week. Little overnight travel is required for the position, but occasionally there may be internship opportunities in our extended region which require visits.
6. This position should demonstrate knowledge of and sensitivity to undergraduates from diverse cultural, economic and academic backgrounds.
7. Ability to work as a team member and leader.
8. Strong problem solving and planning skills.
9. Preference will be given to individuals who had an internship which significantly made an impact on their learning and career path.

Essential Functions:
1. Provides leadership on campus in the areas of internships, career preparation, and vocational calling. This will include personal professional development and staff, faculty, and student professional development.
2. Balance the needs of each constituent stakeholder through networking, developing relationships, careful listening, and discernment. Anticipated stakeholders include students, faculty, alumni, and community partners in industry and service fields.
3. Participates in developing a vocational curriculum for Simpson's first-year experience course.
4. Guides the development of LinkedIn pages for all students and encourages students to use as a portfolio of best work while encouraging faculty and staff to encourage and endorse students talents and skills.
5. Develop professional development opportunities for students to help them grow in professionalism and soft skills.
6. Engage with community members and alumni in creating networking events or job fairs for students as appropriate.
7. Engage in ongoing professional development in career and vocational services.
8. Foster the use of LinkedIn among students, faculty, and staff.
9. Actively participate as a member of the Student Services team, including a willingness to perform other duties as assigned.
