Senior Program Manager Research (Finance)



Full-time exempt position in Pediatric Surgery.

The Senior Program Manager - Research role is a critical administrative support for the Pediatric Regenerative Medicine Research Center, which has three Pediatric Surgeons, three research Ph D faculty members, twelve lab personnel, and two research RNs and Residents.

The administrative support activities involve project coordination of both office, lab supplies, and resources, travel arrangements, management of all research faculty's schedules, assistance in research grant submission, and coordination of credentialing for hospitals and UTP Physicians.

Other duties included collecting, evaluating, and interpreting research data to accomplish the objectives of scientific experiments and research projects.

This role functions as the main information source for the Research program.

This role also has senior administrative oversight of our programs' cGMP facilities and works closely with the faculty director.

This role ensures faculty, residents, and research staff can continue performing at their current levels with minimal support disruptions.

Position Summary:

Develops, plans, maintains research and policy analysis. Oversees the general running of the laboratory or programs.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Manages the research agenda for the area. Oversees overall operations of multiple research programs.
  • Sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities, monitors the progress of projects, provides supervision and guidance to the research personnel, research nurses and administrative staff.
  • Manages partnerships between clinicians and research scientists, internal and external to the University.
  • Manages the annual budget and is responsible for the overall fiscal management of the program. Negotiates service contracts, reports on progress and authorizes expenditures.
  • Informs upper management of key activities.
  • Assists in sponsored project proposals to private sponsors, governmental agencies, and industry sponsors. Works closely with the Office of Sponsored Projects on the submission of sponsored project applications.
  • May conduct or supervise training related to research for internal, hospital, and community groups.
  • Develops on-going strategic plans for the programs.
  • Communicates with community and professionals to share objectives and outcomes. Prepares/makes presentations at professional meetings. May participate in committees as deemed appropriate by the program leadership.
  • Provides consultative expertise regarding policy and/or regulatory questions.
  • Stays abreast of new and updated protocols.
  • Manages Human Resources activities for direct reports in regards to: recruiting and selection; hiring and termination, training, development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills needed include:

Strong organizational and follow-up skills to include post-award research finance expertise, funding changes, payroll support, travel, supplies, facilities, and both clinical and research space management. Supporting highly technical laboratory and clinical researchers, complex technical equipment, animal work, and clinical crossover faculty/researchers.

Certification/Skills:

Depending on research may require advanced level grant writing skills.
Depending on research may require Registered Nurse within the State of Texas.
Depending on research may require Clinical Research Coordinator certification.
May require program specific certifications.

Minimum Education:

Bachelors degree in Science or a Health Administration related field.

Minimum Experience:

Seven years of applicable experience.
May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.
