Medical Assistant Support Specialist (DHWC) (Finance)



Organization's Mission:

The mission of Methodist Healthcare Ministries (MHM) is "Serving Humanity to Honor God" by improving the physical, mental, and spiritual health of those least served in the Rio Texas Conference area of The United Methodist Church.

Essential Duties:

Clinical Support

  • Perform and document patient clinical intake using approved terminology
  • Take and record patient vital signs (BP, pulse, weight, height, etc.)
  • Prepare patients for exams, treatments, or procedures
  • Collect or assist with collecting blood, urine, or other samples
  • Administer injections, medications, and treatments as directed
  • Set up instruments/equipment for procedures
  • Prepare patients for ambulance transfer
  • Respond to patient questions and calls
  • Provide patient and family education about condition and care
  • Assist with medical translation during office or telehealth visits
  • Report STDs/communicable diseases to agencies
  • Assist in rapid response situations and call 911 when necessary
  • Forward rapid response forms to Quality Department by end of day
Administrative & Documentation
  • Work with incoming Sfax documents and upload to EHR (Nextgen)
  • Scan various documents (Immunization consents, BP logs, EKGs, etc.) into EHR
  • Assist with medical claims processing and charge verification
  • Forward valid claims to accounts payable
Clinic Operations & Inventory
  • Maintain tidy and organized clinic environment
  • Maintain exam room inventory; order and replenish supplies
  • Place orders for supplies and medications via E-requestor, McKesson, Amazon, etc.
  • Reconcile invoices with accounts payable department
  • Retrieve durable medical equipment (DME) as needed
  • Schedule annual safety checks and report maintenance needs to Mission Medical
Other
  • Assist in addressing client complaints, requests, and inquiries
  • Serves as a preceptor
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Minimum of a year of experience with a working knowledge of NextGen 8, for internal candidates, minimum of 2 years of medical assistant for external candidates.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program required.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other team members. Translate between provider and patient/client. Fluent in English. Bilingual in Spanish required.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply understanding to carry out instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with occasional or no variables.

Certificates and Licenses:

Registered/certified by either of the following: American Association of Medical Assistants, National Association for Health Care Professionals, National Healthcare Association required. BCLS certification required.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a working knowledge of the Internet, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel applications. Experience with electronic health record software preferred.

Other: Must be able to drive and have access to a car; maintain valid driver's license and auto liability insurance.

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is exposed to a medical office environment having direct contact with patients and clients. Position may necessitate bending, stooping, twisting, turning, walking, climbing step stools, reaching, kneeling, crouching, sitting and standing for periods of time.
