Stewarding Manager - Washington Hilton (Finance)




Washington Hilton is looking for a dynamic Stewarding Manager to join their team while supporting 120,000 square feet of meeting space and 3 food & beverage outlets.Located in the heart of Washington, DC, this iconic hotel is home to amazing events and guests.

The ideal candidate should have min 3 years of Stewarding experience in a similar role, preferably in high volume operations. Hospitality management experience, strong leadership skills, excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability to manage a team effectively in a fast-paced environment is required. In this role you will be the #2 for the department and supervise a team of 55-60 Team Members.

Shift Pattern: 8-10 hours shifts, mostly on the PM, however with full flexibility for any shift required by business for the hotel, on any day of the week, weekends and holidays.

Salary: $65,564 per year.

What will I be doing?

As a Stewarding Manager, you will manage and direct utility stewards and dishwashers to transport and clean cooking utensils and service ware in order to provide cooks, buspersons and food servers with appropriate equipment. Cleans physical surroundings. Supervises and directs staff, including temporary personnel. Ensures proper set up for all banquet functions on his/her shift and that all food and equipment on menus are delivered on time to all functions. Ensures compliance with health, safety, sanitation and alcohol awareness standards. Helps ensure high standards of food and beverage quality, service and marketing to maximize profits and insure outstanding customer service. Interviews, trains, supervises, counsels, schedules, and evaluates staff .

  • Train, schedule, supervise and counsel all stewarding team members in accordance with established standards for safety, productivity and performance. Delegatedish and equipment washing and silver polishing activities and orders. Supervises staff to meet Hilton standards and execute event specifications.
  • Works closely with Food and Beverage,Culinary leadership, Director of Event Operations and Director of Event Experience to identify and maintain serve ware in accordance with specific menu item/buffet presentation requirements. Works closely with Director of Event Operations, Banquet Captains and Event Experience managers in order to furnish and execute on all banquet event order details and specifications for all events in the meeting and public spaces. Meet deadlines respectively.Closely monitor scheduling and payroll of the department insuring proper staffing/coverage for all events.
  • Direct staff in maintaining the cleanliness of the back of the house areas, which include main kitchen, storage areas, dumpster, loading dock, employee cafeteria, outlets, back of house landings, ware washing areas and pantries. Manage general cleaning schedule so that all food service areas meet or exceed all health (DOH) inspection requirements as well as Ecosure, QA inspections, etc. Verbally communicates when necessary, in a calm, positive demeanor, during the course of the function with the kitchen, stewards, beverage, meeting services, banquet captains and engineering staffs, as well as Event Experience & Operation managers to ensure timely execution of events, quality service, and adherence to all applicable federal, state, local safety and health regulations and corporate standards.Formulates and administers operations to include work schedules, and assignments, labor and strategic plans to maintain Hilton meeting service standards and procedures.
  • Maintain sourcing, purchasing, quality control of the inventory of equipment and coordinate the distribution of all big four items: china, glassware, linen and silver, which also includes visual inspection to ensure cleanliness and safe transportation.
  • Control the equipment storage areas and the issuance of equipment for the culinary service and Event Operationsdepartment. This includes protecting, maintaining the cleanliness and good operational condition of house kitchen equipment, i.e. stoves, refrigerators, ovens, icemakers, walk-ins, dish machines, etc.
  • Regularly review and evaluate the degree of acceptance of both the internal and external customer regarding the operation. Recommend new operating, marketing and service policies whenever there is declining business or unsatisfactory service to our customers.
  • Attend and prepare for all menu, pre-cons, tie downs, individual team member, forecast, statement, leadership anddepartmental meetings.
  • Work closely with the Executive Steward, Food and Beverage,Director of Event Experience, Director of Event Operations, Event Experience & Catering Sales managers on the development of new, attractive, and creative presentations and equipment in support of seasonal and themed menus, breaks, and events to maximize revenue, add value, and remain in and/or ahead of trends and variety.
  • Prepare and furnish all reports as assigned for monthly forecast, monthly statement review, labor review. Abide by set cost controls byimplementing effective controls of labor and product cost. Assist in the hotel's goals in establishing and achieving predetermined profit objectives and revenues.
