Description:

Provides expertise in support of research projects in engineering, biology, mathematics, statistics, computer science, physics, etc. Prepares and edits research papers, proposal, and reports. Performs advanced testing procedures and analyses of data. May prepare samples for testing. Performs advanced testing procedure and performs analyses of data. Makes uses of a variety of specialized equipment typical within area of specialization. May contribute to grant proposal development.

6. May be assisted by lower-level personnel. Supervision: Receives minimal supervision conferring with higher levels only in usual situations.

Under supervision, the candidate will work with cell culture of primary and immortalized cells and with in vivo with mouse models. The candidate will assist in (i) active animal studies including but not limited to maintaining mouse colonies, breeding, and the development and execution of high pace research studies, (ii) the isolation and culture of primary cells from human and animal tissues, and (iii) performance of various cell & molecular biological techniques (PCR, Western blotting, genotyping, Immunocyto/histochemistry and microscopy). Responsibilities also include: keeping detailed record logs, general lab maintenance, ordering supplies, maintenance of order logs and packing slips, authorizing invoice payments.

Physical Demands:
Able to bring, unpack, and organize packages from business office to the lab (using a cart). Able to perform lab based assays (pipetting, animal care, etc) and maintenance (washing glassware, autoclaving etc), working at a computer for various purposes (ordering, data analysis, microscopy, lab upkeep).

Work Environment:
Available no less than 40 hours a week Monday-Friday. Flexible hours are needed for completion of certain experiments.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors in Science, Biology preferred
- Technical skills working with animals in a veterinary research or clinical environment.
- Cell & Molecular biology skills: PCR, gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, RNA isolation & purification, protein isolation, immunocyto/histochemistry, fluorescence microscopy.
- Extensive experience of lab safety procedures.
- General laboratory safety practices.
- Skills to follow animal research protocols and stay within compliance of IACUC guidelines.
- Skills to follow direction and stay on task.
- Skills to work individually and as a team.
- Hands on lab & animal experience
- Experience in writing SOPs, working with & training students, ordering and lab maintenance.

MQ: Bachelor's Degree with 3 years experience.
