Funding Specialist (Finance)

Role description

Work with project and funding teams to assess eligibility and competitiveness for state and federal grant and loan programs. Prepare applications, track spending and process draws for design and construction, and ensure funding program requirements are fulfilled. Work with fiscal officers, auditor offices, and other accounting and billing staff to collect and develop financial information required for funding applications.

Role Accountabilities

  • Identify potential sources of funding and assess eligibility and competitiveness of projects to develop a funding strategy
  • Write grants and prepare subsidized loan applications for state and federal programs, and ensure application milestones and deadlines are met
  • Develop financial projection schedules and coordinate with other Financial Advisory Services staff as needed to assess affordability and future revenue needs
  • Facilitate environmental reviews and assessments that may be required, coordinating studies and engaging other environmental experts and consultants who prepare reports
  • Assist clients in drawing and tracking funds from state and federal loan and grant programs and administering funds to ensure program requirements, such as prevailing wage interviews, are met.
  • Research and stay abreast of new funding opportunities and changes to existing programs

Minimum Requirements:
  • 3+ years of experience in government finance or accounting, grant writing, construction administration or funding administration, or environmental planning
  • 2+ years experience working with state, federal and local governments
  • Associates degree

Key Skills and Attributes
  • Proficient using MS Excel software, SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint and other Microsoft products
  • Excellent writing and proof-reading skills, grant writing experience preferred
  • Good communication skills with peers as well as clients
  • Well organized and able to keep others accountable to meet deadlines
  • Able to read and interpret financial reports
  • Strong research and organizational skills
  • Ability to build relationships
  • Be resourceful and self-motivated
  • Able to prioritize tasks and manage time when working on multiple projects

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $42,948 - $64,421. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
