Adjunct Faculty - Anatomy and Physiology - Marsha Fuerst School of Nursing - Las Vegas (Education)

It is the belief of the faculty of the Marsha Fuerst School of Nursing (MFSON) that each team member should have defined responsibilities and that the MFSON accepts the responsibility of supporting its team members in the achievement of both departmental and individual professional goals.

Tuesday / Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and then 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Wednesdays / Friday 8:30 a.m. 11:30 a.m.

18 hours teaching + prep and officer hours = 27 to 30 hours weekly  (To start ASAP) 

The Anatomy and Physiology Instructor plans, teaches, directs, and supervises student learning experiences in the classroom and science laboratory following the approved curriculum and course syllabi. The instructor serves as part of the MFSON through active participation in course planning, implementation, and evaluation activities. The instructor reports directly to the Dean of Nursing.

All instructors must follow policies and procedures outlined in the Nursing Faculty Handbook and the College Catalog.

 Duties and Responsibilities

The Anatomy and Physiology Instructor may be responsible for leading one or more of the following courses: ANT201 Human Anatomy, ANT201L Human Anatomy Lab, PHY202 Human Physiology, and PHY202L Human Physiology Lab.

  1. Demonstrate knowledge and expertise in the study of anatomy, physiology, and related fields of study.
  2. Teach assigned courses.
  3. Prepares and sets up laboratory exercises, demonstrations, and instructional materials; monitors laboratory environment; organizes, arranges, stocks, and distributes materials, equipment, and supplies.
  4. Provides instructional support services for the AAN Program; assists in instructional demonstrations of procedures and techniques; explains related principles, practices, procedures, methods, materials, terminology, tools, and equipment to students.
  5. Operates, demonstrates use of, and maintains various laboratory equipment and materials, including lab solutions, live and preserved specimens, and dissecting equipment.
  6. Cleans and ensures proper storage of laboratory equipment; ensures laboratory and work areas are in clean and orderly condition.
  7. Maintains accurate logs, reports, and records of work performed and materials and equipment used.
  8. Monitors, orders, receives, stores, and maintains adequate inventory levels of supplies and equipment as directed.
  9. Submits work orders for maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities.
  10. Learns and applies emerging technologies and, as necessary, to perform duties in an efficient, organized, and timely manner.
  11. Mentors associate science faculty, such as laboratory instructors, and promotes faculty development.
  12. Use a variety of teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students.
  13. Facilitate instruction using alternative teaching methodologies as needed.
  14. Maintain office hours.
  15. Participate in the assessment of student learning outcomes.
  16. Establish, maintain, and submit accurate student and instructional records each semester according to established deadlines.
  17. Develop instructional materials and evaluation tools in collaboration with other faculty members.
  18. Review and propose updated course textbooks and resources.
  19. Encourage students in the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments.
  20. Update and post course syllabi in a timely manner.
  21. Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning.
  22. Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances.
  23. Record and provide attendance data in accordance with College Policies and Procedures.
  24. Adhere to all college policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Master's degree required; Doctoral degree preferred.
  2. At least 15 semester credit hours or equivalent in Anatomy and Physiology or related field of study.
  3. Practical experience focused on profession that utilizes anatomy and physiology practices.
  4. Prior teaching/tutoring experience preferred.
