About the Role
Position: Safety Technician
Location: Manhattan, KS

As a Safety Technician with LB&B Associates, Inc., you'll play a vital role in protecting the people, processes, and innovations that shape the future. What You'll Do
Each day as a Safety Technician brings meaningful challenges--and the satisfaction of truly making a difference. Key responsibilities include:
· Monitor, inspect, and enforce safety policies and procedures during all phases of facility operations, construction activities, and engineering projects, ensuring compliance with OSHA, NFPA, EPA, and site-specific regulations.
· Conduct hazard assessments and risk analyses for laboratory, engineering, and construction activities, identifying and mitigating potential threats to personnel, property, and operations.
· Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the site's Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs.
· Lead site safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing training for contractors, staff, and visitors, fostering a culture of safety awareness and accountability.
· Oversee the use, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and chemicals, ensuring proper labeling, documentation, and containment practices.
· Inspect construction zones, engineering workshops, and laboratory spaces for compliance with safety standards, life-safety systems, and emergency preparedness protocols.
· Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to review plans, assess risks, and implement control measures for new installations, repairs, and renovations.
· Respond promptly to safety incidents, conduct thorough investigations, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
· Maintain accurate records of inspections, incident reports, training sessions, and compliance documentation.
· Stay current on regulatory changes, emerging hazards, and best practices, sharing insights and guidance to continually raise the safety bar.
· Champion sustainable practices and support initiatives for energy efficiency and environmental stewardship within the facility.
What We're Looking For
Do you bring a strong technical background and a genuine passion for safety excellence? We're seeking candidates who demonstrate:
· Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in occupational health and safety, engineering, construction management, industrial hygiene, or a related field.
· Minimum of 3 years' experience in safety roles within the engineering and construction industry--preferably in research, laboratory, or high-compliance environments.
· Solid knowledge of OSHA regulations, building codes, construction safety standards, and environmental compliance requirements.
· Familiarity with Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, fall protection, and chemical safety protocols.
· Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, blueprints, and technical documentation related to construction and laboratory projects.
· Competency with safety management systems, incident reporting software, and digital inspection tools.
· Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills--capable of influencing safe behaviors at all organizational levels.
· Exceptional attention to detail, analytical mindset, and organizational abilities.
· Physical ability to conduct inspections in active construction zones, laboratories, and facility infrastructure (including lifting, climbing, and navigating tight spaces or elevated areas).
· Unwavering commitment to ethical practice, safety culture, and continuous improvement.
Preferred Skills and Attributes:
· Professional safety certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), OSHA 30-hour card, or other recognized credentials.
· Experience supporting capital projects or facility upgrades from a safety perspective, from planning to completion.
· Knowledge of laboratory safety, biosafety, or hazardous materials management in research settings.
· Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities and solve complex problems pragmatically.
· Customer-service orientation and a professional, solution-focused approach.
Typical Work Environment
Safety Technicians may work across diverse environments--from advanced research labs to active construction and renovation sites. The role requires navigating busy work zones, adhering to stringent facility protocols, and occasionally working evenings or weekends to support critical operations or emergency response.
Physical Demands
· Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
· Frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing ladders, and working at heights or in confined spaces.
· Manual dexterity and visual acuity for equipment inspections and incident investigations.
· Comfort with moderate noise, dust, and exposure to building materials and chemicals (PPE provided).
