Estimating Manager (Finance)



The Estimating Department Manager helps decide what projects to bid and assists in following up and closing work. He or she is responsible for hiring, training and supervising other Estimators. Uses computer technology and mathematical skills in the formation of the estimate. Responsible for hiring, training and supervising other estimators.

Essential Functions
• Set bid schedule and work week outline for estimating department
• Works directly with Contractor and your team during the bid processes
• Reviews scope of work with General Contractor pre/post bid and hardware/HMF manufacturer combo packages determine most competitive position
• Lead your team in performing cost interpretation based on scope of work
• Receives constructing plans, drawings and specifications and reviews for familiarization; checks for completeness; notes bid deadlines and any special requirements
• Organizes approach to project by deciding how to separate portions of major projects, identification of typical opening or hardware sets, etc.; notes project construction schedules, if applicable
• Interprets construction specifications; where necessary, discusses interpretations with Cook & Boardman salesperson, customers or the architect
• Reads building plans and identifies applicable portions with C&B involvement
• Summarizes door opening and other applicable portions of plans by type
• Reviews actual vs. estimated materials on completion of each closed project
• Work to develop customer relationship in pre-bid stages
• Responsible for costing all parts and scope of work
• All other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
• 2 or 4 year degree in Engineering or related area preferred or 5 years of job related experience
• 5-7 years of related experience in similar construction or building material industry
• Accurate mathematical skills
• Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screen

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Experience working in Comsense preferred and Knowledge of industry related software
• Skilled in blueprint/plan reading
• Specification interpretation
• Microsoft office complete
• Knowledge of door, frame and hardware applications as they relate to UL, fire code, building code, ADA, life safety and other restrictions that relate to the general commercial construction industry
• Must have excellent oral communication skills and positive interpersonal skills.
• Detail oriented, deadline conscience, goal driven
• Ability to handle all types of scopes of projects
