Sr. Machine & Tooling Design Engineer (Engineering)



We are looking for a dynamic Sr. Machine & Tooling Design Engineer to join our team!

Where we are located: This position could work from either Shelbyville, IN, or Adrian, MI. Our facility in Shelbyville, Indiana, is in a great location for commuters and residents of the Indianapolis area. Within a 30-45-minute commute are opportunities to live in the heart of a vibrant city or live in a suburb with all the amenities. Our Corporate Headquarters is in Adrian, Michigan. This area is a great location for commuters and residents of both Ohio and Michigan, providing housing options to fit any lifestyle. Within a 45-minute commute are opportunities to live on a lake, live in the heart of a vibrant city, or live in a suburb with all the amenities. We also have manufacturing facilities located in Hopkinsville, Kentucky and Monterrey, Mexico.
What the position entails: This position applies appropriate engineering and manufacturing technology to design, develop, cost, build, install and implement prototype and production equipment and tooling, as well as stepped improvements in new and existing processes in the areas of quality, productivity, competitiveness, and lean initiatives across the company. The engineer serves as an Sr. Manufacturing Engineer (SME) to the entire organization including the Model Shop, Controls, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, and Production teams across four facilities and fills the role of project leader and/or SME on major plant expenditures and new tooling/equipment programs and/or continuous improvement activities, along with developing manufacturing technical competencies.
Major Responsibilities:
Provide technical (SME) support, throughout the Brazeway organization and affiliates.
Conceive, design and/or manage the design of new machines and tooling.
Conceive, design, develop, purchase, qualify, and install manufacturing equipment, tooling, fixtures, and gauges to facilitate production requirements, while incorporating the tools of Lean, Six Sigma and meeting Safety and Ergonomic expectations.
Develop technical resources across all facilities.
Develop strong relations with key equipment suppliers.
Qualify and validate new manufacturing equipment and tooling to ensure that they are safe, efficient, and meet all local, state and federal requirements. This includes the work environment and any associated ergonomic or other human factors.
Apply engineering principles and analyses to develop, design and/or make incremental and breakthrough manufacturing process improvements.
Ensure that new manufacturing processes meet customer product, delivery, and cost requirements.
Participate as a key APQP team member in: Design, analysis, budget, prototypes and samples, purchase and/or build equipment, training, implementation, and improvements.
Analyze and resolve complex manufacturing problems, utilizing knowledge of equipment and tooling design along with process capability, materials, fabrication processes, assembly methods, and quality management tools.
Actively support and manage within Brazeways mission, vision, Code of Conduct, and Process Based Leadership guidelines.
Actively supports our 5S + Safety programs.
Able and willing to travel internationally and/or domestically.
What a candidate must have to be qualified for the role:
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering
5 years minimum machine design experience
2 years experience with products related to refrigeration, extrusion, HVAC, or tubing preferred
Proven project management experience
Lean and/or Six Sigma experience required
Strong commitment to a team environment
Bilingual (Spanish) a plus
