Student Assistant-FWS (Guest Relations Assistant) (Finance)



Overview for the Center for Career & Professional Development
The Center for Career & Professional Development, reporting to the Division of Student Success, is the university's centralized career planning and employment assistance service for USF students and alumni. The programs in the center are designed to help students and graduates assess, explore, develop, and implement their career goals, gain employability skills and career-related experiences, prepare for a successful transition into graduate/professional school or the labor market, and connect with employers to obtain part-time jobs, internships, cooperative education, and professional employment. The center holds the values of community, excellence, integrity, service, and well-being at the core of all they do.

The Guest Relations Assistant is responsible for making a great first impression and assisting the guests that interact with the Center for Career and Professional Development. This position helps communicate timely and accurate information to all guests about the center, services, and programs.

As a result of this position, the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate basic employability skills such as: timeliness to work, appropriate dress, interpersonal communication, and time management
  • Receive and solicit feedback from supervisor and effectively apply feedback to the job
  • Assess workplace and demonstrate how personal talents, skills, and knowledge fit into the employer's goals, mission, and vision
  • Communicate transferable and functional skills to prospective employers appropriately
  • Understand how to assess guest needs and then respond effectively and appropriately
  • Communicate detailed information professionally in one-on-one or in small group settings
  • Maintain awareness of office services, activities, and staff members to make appropriate referrals

Additional Information
The Center for Career & Professional Development is located in the Student Services Building (SVC 2088). Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am - 5 pm.   • A current USF student who must have received the Federal Work Study award for this academic year
  • Able to work 10 to 20 hours per week (excluding university holidays), to be scheduled around your class schedule
  • Someone who is enthusiastic, outgoing, helpful, and with problem-solving skills
  • Someone who has strong verbal and written communication skills, and will be comfortable assisting guests in-person, over the phone, by email, or through
    Microsoft Teams
  • Someone with familiarity with the Center for Career and Professional Development's services, programs, or events, including prior use of services or
    attendance at events
  • Reporting to Director of Operations & Marketing, working alongside a team of Guest Relations Assistants, and serving on the Operations & Marketing Team
  • Compensated an hourly rate of $14.00 per hour

  • Serve as a professional representative of the center when communicating or meeting with all guests, including students, alumni, parents, employers, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Greet guests entering the office, calling on the phone, or contacting us by email; assess guest needs and refer them to the appropriate program, service, or event; escalate inquiries to appropriate staff members as needed.
  • Assist with checking students in for various in-person services and events in the office; provide appropriate services to students, alumni, and employers through Handshake and other systems.
  • Maintain awareness of the center's programs, services, and event offerings; communicate with center team members about updates and activities; attend scheduled team trainings and meetings.
  • Ensure the front desk, lobby, and other common areas are neat, organized, and welcoming; assist with the maintenance and restocking of supplies in various office spaces, as needed.
  • Cross training will be provided as you may be asked to help with coverage for other operations areas of the office. Tasks in those areas may include, but are not limited to:
    • Assist students with finding and checking out professional and business casual clothing for their upcoming career-related events in our clothing closet, Suit-A-Bull.
    • Support with event preparation tasks and/or assist on the event day through various tasks such as promotions, set-up, staffing, check-in, clean-up, etc.
    • Provide administrative support for other office projects, as needed: other duties as assigned.
