Knockout Operator - Aerospace Aluminum Production

Primary Purpose:
The Knockout Operator is responsible for the safe removal of shells, gates, and risers from parts to produce rough castings.

Schedule: Day shift 3:00am - 11:30am +OT as needed.
Pay range: $17.50 - $19.00

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Organizes tools necessary to complete assigned work and checks all documentation (travelers, special instructions, etc.) which are available.
  • Positions castings in Shaker machine and engages machine to shake off all sand cores and related materials.
  • Removes castings form Shaker machine and operates various sized jackhammers to remove any excess sand and related materials from castings and places finished castings in appropriate area for removal.
  • As required, when castings are returned from Bake out area, performs rewrapping duties, including clipping and pulling excess wires, blowing out excess sand with air hose, operating jackhammers and small Shaker machines to remove hardened sand and related materials according to customer and Company specifications.
  • Acquire additional certifications and credentials as required for work or career development
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area
  • Performs inspections to ensure that machinery and equipment in the department are used in a safe manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities t ypically required to perform the essential functions of this job:
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safe working standards and practices.
  • Effective communication skills for interaction with others as a mutually supportive team member.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
  • High School diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Experience operating a forklift is preferred.
  • Previous experience operating a cutting torch is preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Compliance with general company attendance standard is required.
  • HS diploma or equivalent GED required, but candidates not meeting this requirement who possesses relevant experience will be considered.
  • Ability to lift, carry and/or push up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be willing to undergo a pre-employment background check.
  • Must be willing to participate in pre-employment drug screening.
Work Conditions:
  • Working Environment: Factory floor area working with caustic and fumes
  • Exposure to dust, dirt, heat, cold, noise, and vibration.
  • Must wear hearing and eye protection, mask and steel to shoes in performance of duties.
  • The job is often performed under somewhat disagreeable working conditions; exposure to any or all of the mentioned elements is likely, with at least one present to the extent of being disagreeable.
