Industrial Water Staff Process Mechanical Engineer (Finance)

Role description:

Arcadis' Industrial Water Treatment and Optimization (IWTO) team is seeking a mid-level Industrial Water Process Engineer with 5+ years of consulting engineering experience to contribute to our expanding portfolio of industrial water and wastewater related design projects. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Function as the process engineer on industrial water/wastewater projects,
  • Apply processes and technologies for physical/chemical primary treatment, biological treatment, membrane treatment, adsorption, filtration, disinfection, thermal evaporation and crystallization,
  • Receive technical mentoring and guidance from a senior process engineer,
  • Delegate engineering or scientific calculations/ drawings to junior staff,
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary design teams to implement complex treatment solutions, and support implementation of projects from study phase through design, construction, startup and commissioning, and operation and maintenance of treatment systems.

Remote work is allowed although client facilities and projects are located throughout the US, with some international assignments; preferred locations include Houston, Dallas, Raleigh, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, Tampa, Denver, and Philadelphia.

Role accountabilities:

The ideal candidate will possess a good understanding of different types of industrial wastewater treatment systems and have experience designing water and wastewater projects, including the preparation of construction documents such as mechanical drawings, P&IDs, specifications, control narratives, technical reports, memoranda, and operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required, along with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The candidate should be skilled in performing engineering calculations using computer software such as Excel and Mathcad, and have experience writing and editing equipment and piping specifications. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate and coordinate effectively within a multi-disciplinary project environment are essential. Experience working in a consulting engineering firm is a plus. The role also involves providing mentorship to early career engineers. A valid driver's license is required.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in developing and preparing process design drawings, specifications, calculations, plans, and other technical deliverables for a variety of industrial water projects,
  • Field work will be required, including but not limited to, surveys/data gathering, construction quality assurance, inspections, bench- and pilot-scale treatability testing (at client sites or in our lab in Cary, NC), etc.
  • Assist with system commissioning and start-up, including training plant staff.
  • Prepare and make presentations to clients and for professional meetings.
  • Manage projects as necessary to meet both client and Arcadis' expectations.
  • Supporting business development including proposal preparation and meetings with clients.
  • Travel as needed for meetings, site visits, etc. (up to 25%).

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively increasing responsibility in the industrial water/wastewater field.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in engineering or a related field of study with focus on wastewater treatment process engineering.
  • 7+ years of experience.
  • Professional engineer registration in one or more states.

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $68,187-$120,947. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
