Concrete QC Assistant Manager (Finance)

Position Overview

Provide technical support to all ready-mix plants to determine product suitability for use in various construction projects. Develop and maintain relationships with key customers, plant supervisors, aggregate and admixture suppliers, and TDOT personnel. The QC Assistant Manager will assist the QC Manager in elevating the customers' perception and general quality of our mix designs, achieving the elimination of lost loads, the generation of backup data necessary for mix optimization, and overseeing the inspection process of TDOT materials and mix designs. The QC Assistant Manager will help mentor, train and assist Level 1 & 2 Technicians in all aspects of their positions.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Must observe all safety standards and participate in the Company's efforts to provide a safe work environment. Always wears prescribed PPE (personal protective equipment). Must attend and participate in all scheduled Safety Meetings and activities.
  • Will be tasked with learning and familiarizing themselves with all daily processes required for production at concrete batch plants and QC's role in supporting production.
  • Will be tasked with learning ASTM / TDOT Testing Standards required for moisture content testing of materials for concrete and how it affects the concrete.
  • Will be tasked with learning ACI / ASTM Standards required for field testing concrete and be able to assist Techs in maintaining ACI Level 1 Field Testing Technician certification.
  • Will be tasked with learning Harrison computer and cell phone policies and will be able to utilize the computer or cell phone to communicate with the QC Team for daily scheduling and edits.
  • Will be tasked with learning and training Technicians to use Command Series to check orders for accuracy and Command QC for entering and researching test results.
  • Will be tasked with managing a jobsite during production and be able to communicate with jobsite managers and testing labs, relaying pertinent information back to plants and QC.
  • Will be tasked with sampling, split, and test materials per TDOT QC Plant Technician manual and be able to acquire and maintain TDOT Concrete Plant QC Technician certification.
  • Will be required to perform other duties including but not limited to operating equipment.
  • Must possess a professional attitude while interacting with peers, contractors, and the general public.
  • Has demonstrated a mastery of standard QC testing and is able to effectively train others.
  • Assistant QC Manager (AQC) will maintain all required TDOT and ACI certifications, and will acquire other industry certifications as needed. Will attend at least one learning event annually.
  • AQC will be tasked with scheduling daily activities for all QC Technicians making sure pertinent jobs have coverage as needed at the plant and/or jobsite. Will insure test specimens are delivered to lab.
  • AQC will be responsible for keeping test records updated in Command QC to include material testing, concrete fresh property testing, and strength testing records. May delegate but verify tasks are completed.
  • AQC will look over daily orders beforehand and verify correct mixes are being used and proper admixtures/additives are being used. Will coordinate deficiencies with Sales and Dispatch.
  • AQC will assist QC manager with mix design changes in Command QC and with all mix design submittals and be responsible for notifying plants and field techs of acceptable mix ranges.
  • AQC will be tasked with supervising daily QC testing by technicians and assisting them as needed. Will be responsible for keeping technicians geared with proper test equipment and calibrations.
  • AQC will be responsible for submitting and maintaining TDOT approved mix designs annually for all projects to include at least (1) backup plant for each project. AQC will know all TDOT requirements.
  • AQC will be responsible for maintaining the concrete test labs and keeping equipment maintained and in working order and be responsible for replacing testing tools/equipment as needed.
  • Must help proctor a minimum of (2) ACI Classes per year

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • High school graduate and Associates Degree preferred with equivalent experience level
  • Ten years plus in Concrete Industry or similar experience preferred
  • Previous Concrete QC Tech experience required

Required Certifications

ACI Field Testing Technician

TDOT Concrete Plant QC Tech

TDOT Concrete Mix Design Technician

Certified ACI SCC Testing Technician

Attend Concrete learning event annually (TCA or NRMCA Sponsored Class or TDOT Liason Meeting

Work Requirements

  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, criminal background check and driving record review.
  • Must be willing to work flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must demonstrate a strong commitment to safety.
  • Must have a good driving record and current Drivers license
  • Regular and timely attendance is required.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and do basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use basic computer software programs - Outlook, Word, Excel, Command Series & Command QC.

  • Physical ability to work in hot, dusty locations
  • Must be able to adapt and work in extreme weather temperatures
  • The following motions will be required: stretching, stooping, bending, squatting, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, kneeling, throwing, walking, hammering, standing, reaching, rubbing surfaces, squatting may occupy most of work day
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs for repetitious lifting while using proper lifting techniques.

Work Environment

  • Will be exposed to extremes of heat or cold weather.
