Formula/Pharmacy Technician (Finance)



Nemours is seeking a Formula/Pharmacy Technician (Full-Time), to join our Nemours Children's Health team in Wilmington, DE.

The Formula/Pharmacy Technician is responsible for the calculation, preparation, delivery, and monitoring of specialized neonatal and pediatric formulas of human milk, donor milk, and formula to provide proper medical nutrition. Preparation techniques will adhere to all sanitary regulations and standards established by health care facility. The Formula/Pharmacy Technician supports the daily operations of the formula room to ensure the safety for all patients receiving products prepared in the formula room.

The primary role consists of performing milk and formula duties; individuals who are certified as a Pharmacy Technician may also perform Pharmacy Technician duties as needed.

  • Assists medical team, with issues related to formula orders, substitutions, discharge, and special needs to ensure the patient's feeding is provided in a timely manner.
  • Maintains sterile technique during formula and breast milk preparation.
  • Reads, writes, and performs necessary mathematical skills to correctly prepare infant formula and breast milk orders.
  • Prepares and delivers all infant formula and breast milk as ordered.
  • Inventories and maintains sufficient infant feeding room stock.
  • Meets the requirements and compliance with federal, state, and local health and sanitation.
  • Maintains HIPAA and OSHA/ Safety Regulations.
  • Completes necessary paperwork for accurate quantities of expressed human milk and fortifiers to be used for preparation, inventory, billing, and tracking.
  • Maintains daily inventory of expressed human milk and needed supplies. Places inventory orders to maintain adequate PAR levels of donor milk, fortifiers, and supplies. Puts away orders when received, rotates inventory, and disposes of expired inventory (FIFO).
  • Cleans and sanitizes work area and equipment using approved techniques and cleaning agents.
  • Transcribes feeding order information to prepared feeding labels.
  • Follow processes, as established, for quality assurance monitors.
  • May cross train for coverage between Pharmacy and Nutrition Department; if certified as a Pharmacy Technician, may perform Pharmacy Tech duties as needed.
  • Adheres to the Nemours Standard of Behavior.
  • Additional miscellaneous duties and responsibilities, as may be assigned from time to time by employee's supervisor.

  • Requirements
    • High School Diploma or equivalent required
    • Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics preferred
    • Minimum of 3 months experience in a healthcare setting is required. Experience as a Milk Technician, Pharmacy Technician, or Dietetic Technician is preferred.
    • Certification Pharmacy Technician (CphT) or registration as a Dietetic Technician (DTR) preferred
