Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week, every Tuesday and one other day, to be determined by their business unit. Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
CAI seeks to inform, educate, and enlighten our audience on the news of the day and the news in historical context through in-depth, high-quality journalism using the best tools and methods of the craft.
The Cape and Islands NPR Stations CAI, WNAN and WZAI are GBH's NPR Stations based in Woods Hole on Cape Cod. These radio stations broadcast news and information programs from NPR, PRI, and the BBC as well as award-winning locally produced content.

JOB OVERVIEW
CAI is looking for a Radio Reporter/Announcer who with a strong interest in science and environmental storytelling.  The Radio Reporter/Announcer will be tasked with developing original reporting, responding to breaking news and monitoring ongoing stories for developments. Ability to balance several stories simultaneously, react to breaking news and quickly file for newscast, as well as adapt to feature reporting when needed.  The reporter will work closely with members of our editorial team and Managing Director of News.

What you get to do:

  • Identify stories, generate, write, execute voicers, wraps, and scripts for newscast. Adapt for longer feature reporting as needed.

  • Gather, cut, and edit audio.

  • React to breaking news and monitor ongoing stories for developments.

  • Write original stories for the web and assist with social media.

What skills you need:

  • Deep interest in science and environmental topics, with a curious and informed perspective .

  • Strong understanding of principles of journalism and have a proven ability to present balanced reporting, fairness and fidelity to facts

  • Solid news judgment and the ability to prioritize among competing developments.

  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills for both radio and digital platforms.

  • Familiarity with audio editing software (e.g., Adobe Audition, Audacity) and content. 

  • Proficient in Management systems (CMS).

  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital engagement strategies.

  • Strong interviewing skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced newsroom environment , cooperatively and calmly under deadline pressure.

  • A self-motivated and able to work collaboratively with a small staff.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required. Minimum three years of experience in radio, television, or print/digital journalism required. Experience with radio reporting, including live reporting and producing, is highly desired.
